You Will Be Sad to Know That Peaky Blinders Will End After the 6th Season

There is some good news as well. The 6th and final season of “Peaky Blinders” has restarted its production, which had to be halted due to COVID 19. However, the British Broadcasting Service has confirmed that the ongoing season in production will be the final one of the Cillian Murphy starrer.

The news has stormed social media, and it has arrived courtesy of a report published by the ever-reliable Variety. The report has firmly stated that the upcoming season of the Peaky Blinders will conclude the story of Tommy Shelby and his gang.

The BBC series is a brainchild of the Academy Award-nominated director Steven Knight and relays the story of the protagonist named Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) and his rise to prominence with the aid of his family throughout the service class in the aftermath of the first world war.

The report from Variety has suggested that though the British Broadcasting Service has confirmed that the production of the series has resumed (commenced will be the more appropriate word since nothing much was done before), they have also stated that there will no more “Peaky Blinders” after the conclusion of the ongoing season.

If this is true, which it most likely is, then Cillian Murphy can finally bid adieu to the iconic character of Tommy Shelby, and we can begin to comprehend our lives without the show.

The announcement has come as a bit of surprise for some fans as they hoped for the series to continue after the 6th season as well. Actually, even Steven Knight had given an interview to Entertainment Weekly in which he had stated that he anticipated his show to have a longer run than the planned six seasons.

It is theorized by some fans that the ongoing uncertainty pertaining to the production of some shows in the wake of the pandemic has led the BBC to finally draw curtains on the epic saga of Tommy Shelby.

Steven Knight has also confirmed the report via a statement in which he has promised that the 6th season will be the best season of the entire franchise as the stakes of the show are on an all-time high. He also stated that though the saga of Peaky Blinders is coming to an imminent conclusion, the story might continue in other forms. He alluded to the 2019 movie “Deadwood” or a spin-off series.

The executive producer of the show Caryn Mandabach also made a statement and thanked all the partners of the show, including the ones present at BBC and Netflix. She also praised Steven Knight for writing amazing scripts and promised that everyone is working very hard to get the show back on the screen as soon as possible.

She added that the show had been entertaining fans since the year 2013, and it most definitely will stay alive in other forms.

The show unites Tom Hardy with Cillian Murphy, with whom he also has cinema experience thanks to the Christopher Nolan films (Dunkirk, Inception). The show also unites Tom Hardy with Steven Knight with whom he had worked on the film “Locke.”
