Most Shonen series have a number of great characters that help support the plot and make the storyline engaging for the viewers. Naruto is no different, and it is undoubtedly the best Shonen series of the last two decades. Not only does it have great main characters, but even its side characters have a lot of potential. However, it is often criticized for not giving its side characters enough screen time. So, a number of them who have great potential often go wasted. One of the best examples of this is Tenten.
She is a weapon specialist and a part of the Konoha 11. The skilled shinobi is skilled and knows how to get out of tough situations. She is recognized for her valiant fight against Temari in the Chunin Exams. In episode 227 of Shippuden, the viewers are told how she had always wished to become a doctor like her ideal Tsunade. But, unfortunately, she failed to do so because despite her excellent Sannin training.
There were a lot of opportunities for her to go on to become a great character in the series, but unfortunately, she was never given that chance to express herself. She also had a wonderful backstory to go with her skills, and she could be just as influential as any other Naruto character, but unfortunately, that never happened for her.
In Boruto, fans are introduced to Tenten again as a worker in a struggling weapons shop who worked hard to make ends meet. It is strange that despite being so skilled in her work, she hardly has anything else to do, and she does not even bother using her skills to good use. She instead chooses to work in the weapons shop, which has been struggling lately. She could have easily been anything if she wanted, but unfortunately, we see her struggling like this. However, there is still hope for her since she has been collecting all sorts of weapons for a long time, and it might later turn out that she has some unique weapon that the shinobi of Konoha might need. Tenten is a talented character, so it won’t be surprising that she becomes relevant sometime later.
Unfortunately, the male characters on Naruto are so well developed, while the female characters are rarely given that chance. If the franchise has given her the right opportunity, she might have been one of the most important characters. But, unfortunately, so far, that isn’t the case.
