Tim Allen Became Emotional While Reprising His Fan Favorite Character “The Toolman”

In an interview, the lead actor of the hit sitcom “Last Man Standing” revealed that he got sentimental while re-portraying his character from the hit ’90s show, “Home Improvement,” in the final season of the current blockbuster comedy “Last Man Standing.”

While describing his experience of performing a dual role, he honestly said that he felt quite strange.

In his latest interview, the 67-year-old actor became honest and described all the emotions he felt while playing a character after such a long time.

Allen had given an interview to Entertainment Tonight via a virtual chat box before the premiere of the ninth season arrived on Fox. In the interview, he explained that playing the role of Tim Taylor turned out to be not quite what he had expected.

The actor reflected on his thoughts on the episode “Dual Time,” which aired on Fox last Thursday and said that playing Tim “The Toolman” Taylor gave him nothing short of peculiar, strange, and creepy feelings. In the episode “Dual Time,” Tim Allen played both the leading roles, i.e., Mike Baxter and Tim Taylor.

He explained that it was both strange and demanding for him to play both the parts. However, at the same time, the role also brought back some memories, and it was also a bit emotional for him.

He added that the death of Earl Hindman, which happened in 2003, played a part in enhancing his emotional feeling about Tim Taylor. In the 90s show “Home Improvement,” Hindman used to play the role of Wilson, a neighbor of the lead character Tim Taylor on the show.

Tim Allen talked about Hindman in the interview and said that his fondness for him has never decreased, and it was his feelings for his deceased friend that compelled the writers to include a plot in memory of the late actor.

He further explained that whilst performing the role, all the memories of his past started coming to him, which included his time with the cast and crew of Home Improvement, how the show influenced his personal life, and the loss of his friend Earl Hindman.

However, he kept his emotions in check and kept on reiterating that it was all about the loss in the episode.

The latest episode of “Last Man Standing,” which is just the second episode of the new season, shows Mike’s spouse named Vanessa (played by Nancy Travis) hiring a repairman who turns out to be Tim Taylor, aka, The Toolman. Tim Taylor and Mike Baxter soon find out that they are each other’s doppelganger. However, Tim Taylor’s appearance was not kept under wraps before the release of the series, as you might have seen Mike Baxter and The Toolman meet in a clip from the official trailer.

In the clip, The Toolman remarked to Mike Baxter that the people who know him regard him as The Toolman. Tim Allen added that apart from facing some subliminal issues, the COVID-19 pandemic also made it a little tough for him to play both the characters.

He revealed in his interview with Entertainment Tonight that the team shot “Dual Time” right after the shooting of the first episode ended and adjusting to the new circumstances, he had to shoot with no crowd with people giving directions to him to play a role he had barely touched for over twenty years.

Not many months ago(in October), he had promised that the final and ninth season of “Last Man Standing” would make people laugh and also make them remember it for a long time.

It looks like Tim Allen hasn’t broken his promise. Of course, he never has.
