If you only want to hear good news in January, then please look away.
It has now been confirmed that Mike Flanagan’s planned directorial venture pertaining to the adaptation of “Revival” will not go into production. And fans are not happy.
Mike Flanagan, mostly notable for his excellent work in the two seasons of the anthological “Haunting” franchise, has also adapted some of Stephen King’s finest stories, which includes an erotic crime thriller “Gerald’s Game,” and horror sequel of the cult classic film “The Shining”-“Doctor Sleep.”
However, he had also been linked with the “Revival” adaptation, but the acclaimed director revealed to his followers on Twitter that he will no longer be directing the adaptation of “Revival.”
Following his usual habit of interaction with fans, Flanagan revealed on January the 5th, 2021, that he is no longer part of the plans. On January the 5th, Flanagan unveiled an update after a long gap ( the last update had come last summer).
The 2014 novel “Revival” was penned by Stephen King. The novel explores the protagonist, who is a young preacher fascinated with electrical experiments after he loses his wife and a child in an accident. The readers who have read it have regarded it as the author’s best horror story to date, surpassing the legacy held by “The Shining” for years. Last summer, King’s fan base got really excited as they heard that Mike Flanagan had been hired to write a screenplay for the project along with an offer to direct it as well.
For now, it is unclear why Flanagan’s project was put on hold or whether he had written anything for the project. However, after reading the tweet, the individuals who are a fan of both the author and the director are quite vexed.
Well, for a long time, the onscreen adaptation of “Revival” has been treading on a slippery road. The director of the 2020 film “The New Mutants”-Josh Boone, was once attached to the project, and he had even written a script for it. In addition, it was also rumored that Russell Crowe had been roped in to star in the project.
Though fans were super excited to watch the Flanagan version of “Revival,” they now wish that Josh Boone should now return to the project to complete Russell Crowe’s version of the film (it can be argued that Crowe is a little older to be playing the role of the preacher).
Josh Boone, for some reason, stepped away from “Revival,” eventually focusing on a different Stephen King story, which was successfully made, and it has been recently released on CBS All Access. Yes, I am talking about “The Stand,” which was recently released on CBS All Access.
The truth is that fans now do not care who the director is as long as the “Revival” does get adapted to the big screen. However, considering the fact that it is a Stephen King novel, you can expect a virtuous, if not an esteemed director to step in.
The Stand is now out on CBS All Access. You can read the reviews of it, which are present on several sites on the internet.
