TCL has made it clear that the phone still hasn’t reached the production stage, but the design and concept look staggering. Moreover, the idea is evolving, and it is likely to improve in the forthcoming future.
TCL is obsessed with the concept of rollable and foldable phones and is striving hard to make a successful design out of the concept. On April the 14th, Wednesday, TCL (which is well known for its production of TVs) publicly revealed the latest 10 Series phones and gave a sneak peek on how the company is striving to shape the future of smartphones. The smartphone device based on a completely brand new concept is a fusion between a rollable device and a foldable device. The renders of the upcoming product give away the fact that the phone is much more smooth and shining than it appears.
In March, CNET had revealed that the prospering company had named the new device “Fold ‘n Roll.” The phone starts as a regular 6.87-inch phone when wholly folded up; it suddenly expands itself to become an 8.85-inch version when you unfold it a little and then into a 10-inch tablet-like device when you unroll it completely.
Stefan Streit, who is designated as a general manager of global marketing of the phone business of TCL, talked to CNET.com via a video call before Wednesday’s announcement and revealed a non-working model of the phone while talking about it.
Streit showed that the current model is a lot different from the heavy triple folding concept that the company had shown off last year. Streit added by saying that the new design would look similar to the regular-sized smartphone, but it would look a bit thicker.
Stefan Streit promoted the product by saying that he can easily carry the thick phone in his pocket without facing any issues, and if a situation arrives where he needs to unfold the device, he can easily do so, and the device suddenly behaves like a tablet.
He also added that a user could further enhance the screen, and the device can become a fully functioning tablet alluding to the fact that the phone is beneficial for movie buff people.
We have to remind ourselves that even if people are interested, there is no definite launch date, and the product hasn’t even reached the production stage where the design can be implemented into a functioning product, which people can buy. Yet, CNET has reported that there are a few prototypes that are further being worked on in the laboratories of TCL.
Stefan Streit also agreed to the fact in his interview with CNET that TCL is still putting the impetus on protecting the screen in its test, alluding to the fact that there is still a lot of screen on the exterior.
