Purchasing an RTX 30 GPU is virtually still impossible. To fix this issue and limit crypto mining, it is soon rolling out a Lite Hash Rate feature.
Nvidia has been struggling for months with the shortage of its RTX 30 graphics cards. The company is trying to keep its graphics card in stock for months. However, the company is about to roll out the new Lite Hash Rate feature to deal with the situation. It is yet to see whether this step taken by the company will address the issue or not, but any progress being made to sort out it is good to see.
Nvidia launched its RTX 30 GPUs first in September 2020. Ever since then, there is a shortage of RTX30 series GPUs in the market. It has become almost impossible to buy an Nvidia RTX 30 GUP. The RTX 30 GPUs have been nonexistent and almost out of stock when you try to buy them from the official retailers. When they become available at the retailers, they are either sold out instantly or sold out at exorbitantly high prices.
A couple of things seems responsible for this shortage that includes the ongoing global chip shortage. Countless companies are facing this global chip shortage. Companies’ supply chain seems failed to meet the increasing demand for more tech gadgets by users worldwide. Above all, many people are buying the graphics cards of Nvidia for crypto mining. Soon, the company will be dealing with the issues directly.
According to a report presented by Videocardz, the company is working to roll out the new batch of its GPUs, RTX30. The new chip batch will be introduced in the market with upgraded GA1XX-xx2 chips. Here, it is worth noting that no technical enhancements have been introduced to the upgraded chips.
The new chips will come with the feature ‘Lite Hash Rate. ‘ It will limit the performance of the cards when someone uses them for cryptocurrency mining. However, the new graphics cards will perform equally fast and sound like the original RTX30 cards.
But, their horsepower is decreased when detecting crypto mining. It can be expected that it will be almost impossible for the users to bypass Lite Hash Rate, unlike the company’s previous attempts to deal with it.
In its previous attempt, Nvidia released a new software update to its graphics card GeForce RTX 3060. The latest software update made it even more difficult for the users to buy these graphics cards. The low price and excellent performance of the 3060 graphics cards have made them hot-ticket items for crypto miners.
But, the RTX 3060 was one of the go-to options due to its features, price, and specs. Nvidia attempted to combat this by reducing the hash rate of the graphics cards by 50 percent when it detected the Ehtereum cryptocurrency mining. But, Nvidia itself broken the protection just about a month after its announcement.
RTX 30 Series Cards With Lite Hash Rate: Shipping Will Start in May
Users worldwide expect Nvidia to begin shipping its Lite Hash Rate graphics cards as soon as possible. However, according to reports presented by Videocardz, the new xx2 chips will be shipped out sometime in the mid of May.
It means the new and refreshed RTX 30 graphics cards will go on sale in June. Besides, it is expected that the company is not going to differentiate the Lite Hash Rate cards from the existing models. If the users will buy an RTX 3080, they may or may not going to get one with the refreshed Lite Hash Rate models.
While all these seem to be a piece of good news on the surface, it remains to see its impact on the availability of RTX30 series graphics cards. Crypto miners have played a major in limiting the supply of cards, but the biggest issue is the chip shortage. The overall situation has worsened so much that it has led to the smuggling of computer parts like GPUs, hoping to meet the rising demand.
Meanwhile, Nvidia has said that the chip shortage could go until 2022. However, many other industry experts have said that it may go until 2023. Amidst all, introducing a more secure feature to limit crypto mining is a good step and has been taken in the right direction. Still, it isn’t easy to believe that it will ensure the instant availability of the RTX 30 graphics in the market for everyone.
The users and all who are waiting for the new batch of the cards to arrive have to wait and see. The Lite Hash Rate may become part of Nvidia’s inventory within a few months, i.e., may be by the end of June or July. This time one can expect that the company has the right idea with this new batch of graphics cards.
