New Study Claims That Android Apps Are 8x More Dangerous Than iOS for Students

Technology can be a boon or a bane. It tries to simplify our lives and make things easier for us, but just like a coin, it also has two faces. Today there is so much improvement in technology and AI that it indeed has some negative and positive impact on our lives.

As per the recent study by Me2B Alliance, a non-profit organization that is committed to giving individuals more knowledge in how technology treats the people and has claimed that the Google Android platform is vulnerable eight times more likely to send data from school apps to third parties, which is very risky and as compared to iOS it is much riskier. In this new study, the organization has collected a random sample of 73 mobile apps used by 38 schools in 14 states across the US and covers at least a half-million people (including students, teachers, families, etc.).

Third parties include Facebook, Google, and more. And with the data available suggested that Google is receiving about 49% of the site visitors knowledge and Facebook receiving 14%

data traffic. Further studies showed that 91% of Android apps share the student’s data with these third parties compared to iOS, which is sharing only 26% of data.

About 20% of the Android apps are being culprits of sharing the data with very high-risk third parties. And only 2.6% of apps on iOS were found to be sharing the data with a third party. With this information, we can know that android apps are much riskier than iOS and are eight times more dangerous than iOS apps.

As per reports, the data sent to the third parties are typically unique through mobile Advertising identifiers and enabling profile building for students under the age of 13 by the third-party advertising platforms.

Some reports also claimed that the data is being shared as soon as the app is being opened by the students and even if they are logged off. Also, reports have shown that both Google and Apple are not specifying about the third party sharing user’s data with their respective app stores.

As per the reports students, data is shared with third parties while they are logged in or logged off. They are sharing data with the third parties, and still, the people know so little about the third party. We hope Google must make information clearer about the third party with whom they are sharing information.
