The LG Tone Free FN7 is considered the best wireless earbuds that the company has produced, yet it may not be enough for the company to dethrone Apple AirPods Pro.
Apple has always been a big name in the wireless earbud industry. But, with the introduction of LG Tone Free FN7, the AirPods Pro may be going to face a worthy and strong competitor. Since the launch of the first AirPods in the year 2016, these earbuds have entirely dominated the audio market such that the products have expanded to AirPods Max and AirPods Pro.
Since the grand debut of AirPods, several companies have tried to snatch the dominance of Apple giving fierce competition to it. Even though not all the attempts made by these companies were successful still it brought some excellent and amazing alternatives. For example, Galaxy Buds Pro introduced by Samsung is considered among the best wireless earbuds that Android users use all across the world.
Similarly, the Pixel Buds introduced by Google is also among the most recommended products. Apart from these, there are other countless brands like Anker, Skullcandy, and others that have found success in introducing amazing earbuds that can drastically undercut the offerings of Apple.
Amidst all, LG has also made several attempts and successfully come up with its Tone Free lineup of earbuds. Tone Free FN7 is the latest among this lineup that LG thinks has created the best earbuds. While the newly introduced earbuds have not all the things right, LG makes a lot of promises for the earbuds it is going to introduce in near future.
What Features The LG Tone Free FN7 Get Right
Audio quality was the biggest issue with predecessors of FN7 i.e. the Tone Free FN6. The sound in the earbuds was muffled, flat, and worse than what its price tag suggested. Fortunately, LG addressed that issue with the introduction of FN7. The earbuds sound amazing with their secure in-ear fit. These earbuds can crank up to even though volumes without any issue or distortion in sound, music sounds rich and nice with the presence of big bass. However, some listeners may find low-end too much overpowering but the presence of an equalizer allows the users to customize.
Plus, LG has EQ mode made previously with the Natural preset that offers the most balanced listening experience. You can enjoy FN7 with every type of music whether it is 3 O’clock Things or Lo-Fi Beats. Hardware is another highlight of FN7 that includes a charging case with a soft-touch pleasing finish and an LED indicator indicating the latest charge status. You can charge it through Qi wireless and USB-C.
Above all, you will find the earbuds comfortable to wear and with extremely in-ear accurate detection for playing and pausing a song automatically. Regarding its battery life, the newly introduced LG earbuds are perfect providing 7 hours of hassle-free listening and endurance of 21 hours when considering the charging case. It is quite better than the 4.5 hours of continuous battery life that AirPods Pro provides. However, the endurance of 24 hours offered by AirPods is better than LG earbuds but its playback is quite double and impressive.
Where The Experience Regarding the Earbuds Falls Flat
The Tone Free FN7 has good quality hardware, impressive audio quality, and better battery life. But, it suffers from a variety of quality and life issues holding it back from dethroning its competitors including even AirPods Pro. Its touch controls are too sensitive for day-to-day use for beginners. When you adjust earbuds to get a better fit, its controls are activated inadvertently that further paused the music unintentionally. However, LG has provided an option to lock or pause these controls.
Besides, FN7’s wireless connection is making it more annoying. The process of pairing the earbuds with an iPhone 11 Pro was seamless initially but since then, these have been consistently inefficient and inconsistent. The earbuds don’t connect automatically always i.e. the users need to connect it manually while going into their phone settings. Sometimes, it does not work requiring the earbuds to be repaired. Above all, the companion app of LG for the FN7 is fantastic when it works, but has its own issues. For example, it randomly enables Transparency Mode when you turn on the earbuds.
AirPods Pro Are Better, but LG is Also Getting Close
Audio quality in FN7 is far better than what it was in FN6. However, popping up a number of connectivity bugs is upsetting the whole thing. AirPods are going to be the first choice for many shoppers. However, both brands go neck to neck regarding battery life, hardware, and sound quality. AirPods offers the best touch controls in the earbuds market with unmatched connectivity. Plus, transparency modes and ANC also provide a better overall experience in comparison to Tone Free FN7.
In the end, LG is getting closer gradually in terms of quality when compared to AirPods. If it releases the FN8 model this year by correcting whatever has gone wrong in FN7, then it may put Apple in serious trouble. Until then, AirPods are superior and going nowhere.
