Though after “Reader,” the film can arguably be considered her best performance, Winslet does not feel any joy when she re-watches herself in “Titanic.”
While talking about the film, she explained that she dislikes her performance so much that she is barely able to listen to her dialogues.
“Titanic” was the film that launched both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to the heights of stardom and eventually earned her one of the four Best Actress nominations, which was also her first. However, she has now revealed that she disregards her performance whenever she watches herself in the film.
One of the best actresses of our generation, Kate Winslet, crucifies herself whenever she watches herself in one of her highest-grossing films.
She starred in the James Cameron disaster epic as Rose DeWitt Bukater (a daughter of a high-class family) opposite lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio who played the role of Jack Dawson (a low-income artist).
The film turned out to be an unexpected mega-hit before eventually becoming the highest-grossing film (a record which it held for almost a decade), attaining 2 million from the worldwide theatres. Apart from that, it also went on to win 14 nominations at the ’98 Oscars, winning two of them with one of them being the highly coveted Best Picture award.
You can read further to know why Kate Winslet (who won her first Best Actress Oscar for “Reader”) does not like what she did with Titanic.
It was the year 2012 when CNN decided to speak to Kate Winslet ahead of the release of the film’s 3D adaptation, and in the interview, she explained that she doesn’t have the patience to watch her performance in the Titanic. She revealed this fact when the reporter asked her whether she thinks she can do a scene better than what she did while she was in the character of “Rose.” She replied pretty confidently that she would love to do every single scene differently.
She frantically explained that whenever she watched a bit of her performance, she became highly critical of herself and couldn’t believe that she performed a scene like that. She hated her American accent so much that she is barely able to listen to herself now. She now anticipates that the audience finds her American accent better than the one she used in her previous films.
Like all good actors, she thinks that after working in the industry for over two decades, she has evolved herself as an actor.
However, even after receiving four Academy Award nominations and tons of experience, she still thinks that her professional anxiety hasn’t gone away.
She explained that almost all actors in the industry feel that their work isn’t good enough. She said in the interview that she would re-shoot some of those scenes again.
She added that she was lucky that the initial part of her career prepared her for the challenges that lay ahead of her.
