While using Apple devices or Siri AI, sometimes users face Untrusted shortcuts errors like “This shortcut cannot be opened because your Shortcuts security settings don’t allow untrusted shortcuts.” Once the errors arise on the device’s screen, users are left confused.
If you are also facing similar issues, we are here to guide you on tackling this solution and removing the glitches to open the shortcut. You will learn how to find toggle to allow untrusted shortcuts and how Apple uses shortcuts to protect your privacy.
Searching Toggle to Allow Untrusted Shortcuts
Once you get an iCloud link for your shortcut, you may find the following message:
“You are not allowed to add the particular shortcut because your Shortcuts security settings restrict the same. Reach Settings and turn it ON.”
Unfortunately, there is no direct method to take you directly to the Shortcut settings. You need to follow some necessary workarounds to find the toggle for enabling the shortcut to launch. You need to follow the steps mentioned below:
Finding Shortcut settings
You need to search the Shortcut Security Settings on your own. Here are the steps to do the same:
Initially, reach the dock panel.
Then, double click the gear-shaped icon to open the Settings app on your device.
Reach to the main group of Apple apps.
Hit the Shortcuts category tab. Here, you will get the security settings, but it might be deactivated by default if you haven’t run any shortcuts yet.
Turning On Untrusted Shortcuts
In case you want to turn it on, then follow these steps:
First of all, create your shortcut for getting one from the Gallery.
Now, run your shortcut by tapping the Play icon located at the lower right edge.
Next, reach the Settings section and then hit the Shortcut tab once more.
Completely Enabling Untrusted Shortcuts
If you want to activate untrusted shortcuts completely, then you need to follow these straightforward steps:
First up, you need to flip the toggle option “Allow Untrusted Shortcuts” to ON.
Then, verify the dialog prompt after carefully reading your Apple message.
After that, type your pin code to verify your settings.
Note: You can check the privacy policy to understand its meaning. However, Apple doesn’t review every shared shortcut in actuality.
Adding the Shortcut
If you have successfully allowed untrusted shortcuts and open the shortcuts link, you will be automatically taken into the gallery view to browse the shortcuts menu. Here is how:
First of all, change your name to the activation phrase you like to use with Siri.
Now, see every available action provided in the shortcut section to check what’s happening.
After that, search for the Untrusted Shortcut adding option.
Then, you will see a large red tab that says “Add Untrusted Shortcut?.” Tap the same to proceed.
Follow the on-screen directions there.
After some time, the shortcut will be added to the relevant shortcuts collection.
Taking Per-Shortcut Permissions
Apple will move one step forward to save your sensitive or important data even if you have enabled untrusted shortcuts for your shortcuts library. It uses per-shortcuts permissions for the same.
Reach to the My Shortcuts section and tap the shortcut that you have added to the collection. For specific tasks like location access, you need to provide a permission separately.
You may also hit the Options tab located inside the shortcut option to view all the permissions granted. Then toggle them off if needed.
Now, we can say that you need to give separate permission for anything sensitive in the context of your privacy.
Sharing Your Shortcuts
You can share your shortcuts, too, just like other things. You need to enable the toggle related to Allow Untrusted Shortcuts for sharing with others.
Apple has provided several features to us, but sometimes while accessing something sensitive or anything else using Siri, we end up with the untrusted shortcuts error. In order to see the content, we need to enable those shortcuts. You can also share your shortcuts with others by allowing an untrusted shortcut sharing feature. You can turn on the Untrusted shortcut by accessing the shortcut’s settings. Reach the settings page and then hit the Shortcuts tab to get the ON/Off toggle.
