Get Emails to your New Gmail Account from a Previous One

Creating a new Gmail account doesn’t mean sacrificing old messages from the previous account. You can use both your accounts when you need to check and send emails. But managing two Gmail accounts can’t be an easy chore for many. In that case, transferring emails from an old Gmail account to the new one is the best way to go.

Getting emails to the new Gmail account from the older account isn’t a difficult task. It can be done through simple procedures. All you have to do is to use the right steps. Moreover, we will help you in switching to a new Gmail account throughout the process. Let’s see the procedure in detail.



Get your old Gmail account ready for the process

The very first thing you have to do is to prepare the older account for the transfer process. Preparing the account for the process isn’t a challenging task. You can do it through the POP or Post Office Protocol settings. Here is how.

  • Open the Gmail app on your device.

  • Then you have to sign in to your account if you haven’t signed in yet.

  • Once you are in your account, locate and hit the gear icon.

  • As you click the gear icon, you will find the See all settings option at the top. You need to tap on it.

  • Next, you need to select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

  • Within the POP Download option, you have to select EnablePOP for all mail.

  • Now you are required to go through the other part of the same section that says, “When messages are accessed with POP.”

  • From the drop-down option, decide what you have to do with emails in the previous Gmail when a new account detects them. You can leave the copy alone, including marked as read, archived, or deleted.

  • Then, hit the Save changes option.

  • Finally, log out from the previous Gmail address.

Use your new Gmail account and fetch emails with it

After preparing the older Gmail account, access your new account and get all the older emails on it.

  • Sign to your new Gmail account.

  • Click the gear icon from the top right corner.

  • Hit the See all settings option.

  • From settings, you have to click on the Accounts and import option.

  • Access a section called Check mail from other accounts.

  • Choose to add a mail account option.

  • Fill in your previous Gmail account and tap Next.

  • Now you have to choose Import emails from my other account (POP3) and tap Next.

  • Verify your username and password for the older Gmail account.

  • Choose pop.gmail.com from the “POP Server.”

  • Keep the port at 995.

  • Remove the checkmark from Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server.

  • Check the option called Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail.

  • Hit, Add account.

  • Confirm your preference when you see a message like Would you also like to be able to send mail as———@gmail.com? Our recommendation is to give yourself the option to perform it if you have to reply to previous emails through the previous account.

  • In case you opt Yes, go through the given guidelines to prepare everything. You are all set if you opt No.

Now your new account is ready to grab emails from the older account. The process might take time.

How to stop getting emails from the older account?

If you have received all the emails you need on your new Gmail account; you can now stop importing. However, you can leave the setting turned on to grab all new emails from the older account, but everyone doesn’t want this. Here are the steps you can follow to stop importing.

  • Sign in to your new account.

  • Tap the gear icon.

  • Go to Settings.

  • Access the Account and import section.

  • Then visit Check mail from other accounts.

  • Press the Delete button.

  • Tap OK to finish.
