A new report is doing the rounds of the internet that the DCEU star Ben Affleck will be helming the onscreen adaptation of “Keeper of the Lost Cities,” which will be produced by Disney.
The report has also suggested that Ben Affleck will also join the writer’s team, which will adapt a bestselling series (written for the ages between 8 to 12) penned by Shannon Messenger.
It will mark the first time Affleck has associated himself with a fantasy project. The report has emerged courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which suggests that the actor turned filmmaker will be on a directorial venture based on a fantasy series “Keeper of the Lost Cities,” which will be produced by Disney.
The book series penned by Shannon Messenger, which explored a teenage girl with telepathic power, will be adapted into a screenplay by Kate Gritmon alongside Affleck himself. The book explored Sophie, who begins to search for the source of her superpowers and soon finds out that she is not a girl from the world she lives in but from a parallel one.
The series has sold approximately 2.5 million copies worldwide, and Messenger has already written and published eight books, with the ninth one about to be released soon. The film version of the story will be overseen by Madison Ainley, who will serve as an executive producer in the production team (Deadline was the one who reported this first).
Ben Affleck, an Academy Award winning director for the film Argo, is also set to direct a movie exploring the making of the classic Chinatown movie, which will be produced by Paramount.
The last time we saw Ben Affleck on the screen was in a sports drama film, “The Way Back,” which was released just around the time when the pandemic was about to take the world in its grip (i.e., March of last year).
The “Way Back” brought Affleck’s name back into the drawing-room awards discussions, and it is quite good news for him.
In the coming years, he will play the role of Batman in the film “The Flash,” which will star Ezra Miller. He will also be seen in a Ridley Scott film, “The Last Duel,” which will also star Matt Damon, Jodie Comer, and Adam Driver in the leading roles. Furthermore, he will also star in “Deep Water,” which will be directed by Adrian Lyne.
In the industry, Ben Affleck is represented by WME.
In recent years, apart from his notable performances in David Fincher thriller “Gone Girl,” “Triple Frontier,” and “The Accountant,” he has been largely associated with the DCEU project. Like Henry Cavill, the last time he was seen in a DCEU film was Joss Whedon’s Justice League. We all know how the film performed in theaters, and we also know that it led Affleck to reconsider his commitment to DCEU projects.
Nevertheless, for now, it is clear that he will be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is about to arrive on HBO Max in March, and The Flash, which will be the first-ever theater adaptation of DC’s speedster.
Until further notifications, we can assume that Henry Cavill’s future at DCEU is also in doubt.
